According to Cambridge Dictionary, refugees is define as a person who has escaped from their own country for political, religious, or economic reasons or because of a war. Refugees were defined by the United Nations Convention Relating to the state of refugee, it is also known as 1951 Refugee Convention to people who are not considered as nationals by any state under the operation of its law. 1951 Refugee Convention are formally adopted on 28 July 1951, the agreement legally binds country signees to recognize and protect people who flee their countries. Refugee have almost no rights, and due to this, they are also often treated very poorly. Though it is possible for them to move and travel, they have no chance of acquiring citizenship into any country.
Total of around 7.9 million Ukrainian refugees were registered across Europe from Ukraine due to the Russian invasion on 26 December 2022. In May 2021, there were an estimated of 179,570 refugees and asylum seekers registered with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) in Malaysia. The majority were from Myanmar with a total of 154840, including 102,950 Rohingya people, 22490 ethnic Chins, and 29400 from other ethnic groups fleeing persecution or conflict-affected areas. Some countries refuse to take refugees because they are considered liabilities for an economy. But some others take refugees in as opportunities for economic growth. For country that accept refugees, they think that refugees can provide their skills and knowledge that can be used towards the benefit of local people. But for country that reject refugees, this is because that the demand for food and other commodities will increase, which will lead to price rises in the host state’s market.
