Conflict Russia and Crimea

 The conflict between Russia and Ukraine over Crimea began in 2014. Before the conflict, Crimea was an autonomous region within Ukraine, with a majority ethnic Russian population. In November 2013, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, who has strong ties to Russia, unexpectedly announced that Ukraine would not sign a long-planned association agreement with the European Union. Many refugees also face discrimination and xenophobia in their host countries, which can make it difficult for them to integrate into their new communities.

 

Overall, Russia's annexation of Crimea and the ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine have displaced large numbers of people, both at home and abroad, and these people face several challenges in finding security and stability.
